AMLSN set to train Scientists on COVID-19 Sample Collection
The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) Bayelsa State branch in conjunction with the branch COVID-19 Committee is organizing a training for Medical Laboratory Scientists in the state on COVID-19 Sample Collection.
The training will hold at the Federal Medical Centre Yenagoa on Wednesday 22nd to Thursday 23rd and at the Niger Delta University Teaching Hospital on Friday 24th April 2020.
According to the branch chairman Sct. (Dr) Agoro, E.S., the training which participants will be presented certificates at the end is mandatory as Scientists need to equip themselves with the knowledge on how to collect COVID-19 samples.
His words: "I write to inform all members that the COVID-19 committee in conjunction with the EXCO are putting up a mandatory COVID-19 Sample Collection Certification Workshop. This will engender us to monopolize sample collection aspect of the COVID-19 exercise."
He noted that facilitators will be draw from Medical Laboratory Scientists who are certified in COVID-19 sample collection.
Workshop fee is just one thousand naira.
This coming as the Director-General of the NCDC, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu had said that testing for coronavirus (COVID-19) is no longer its problem at the moment as it now has 12 molecular diagnostic laboratories across the country, but that samples collections and other response activities are the major challenges to overcome.
