AMLSN Helmsman Clears Air On Controversial Conference Fee
The President, Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) Dr. Bassey Enya Bassey has cleared the air on the recent introduction of a compulsory conference fee of five thousand naira as part of the association membership dues.
A development that drew wide criticism and displeasure from members and stakeholders of the association alike.
According to Dr. Bassey:
"The idea behind the conference fee for all, is not only to raise funds for the building, nor just to organize a befitting conference for the association, but it is also part of our quest to have every member of the profession benefit from it. Plans are on to justify the payment of those who may be unable to attend the conference by allowing them to, justly and satisfactorily, earn the 5 credit CPD unit that participants are entitled to. This becomes necessary since the essential nature of our services, already makes it impossible for us all to be present at the same time for such conferences.
To this end, we intend to have all the key lectures and workshops materials of the conference uploaded on our e-learning platform (and other easily accessible platforms) and upon successful and studying and assessment online, members can get the conference CERTIFICATE with the 5 (CPD) credit units.
Members can also benefit from this 3 days conference through, the possible, live streaming of the conference. We also agreed to revert our conference period back to August/September which is usually vacation period for many of us.
